Industrial PhD Engineer for the Edge AI (StorAIge) project

1. Ph.D. thesis in Artificial Intelligence – Edge AI SW/HW for HealthCare

We are now looking for an Industrial PhD Engineer interested in Artificial Intelligence for an Edge AI solution for Healthcare.

 

 2. Project description

The PhD project will take place as part of the StorAIge project, co-funded by Vinnova and EU (ECSEL call). The project aims to develop hardware and software that will bring AI to local environments by situating data collection and analysis at their source. Concerning hardware, the project also includes the development of next-generation chipset technology for handling AI on the edge’s complex calculation and security algorithms locally. 3.  Your Role

As Industrial PhD, you will be part of the eHealth team which is responsible for our product line SwipeCare as well as for making the SW algorithm part of the FPGA prototype application in this project.

Your research will be supervised by KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology and Uppsala University:

  • SW: Dr. Manfred Grabherr, Senior Researcher and Team Leader at Uppsala University, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology. CTO and Founder of Methority. Head of AI Development and co-founder Denapsis Artificial Intelligence

         in coordination with:

  • HW: Prof. Ahmed Hemani, KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden

Your responsibilities include and are not limited to:

  • Research and development of the AI SW part on the eHealth use case.
  • Participate in knowledge transfer, documentation, information sharing, and you will also do some education course related work at KTH (60 hp).
  • Stay abreast of on new technology/technical areas and actively share competencies.

Place: The role is positioned in Kista at Strikersoft and with active collaboration with your project colleagues at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Kista and Strikersofts R&D team.
Target degree: Doctoral degree

 

4. Your skills and experience

During the selection process, candidates will be assessed upon their abilities below:

  • Can collaborate with others
  • Can independently pursue your work and approach colleagues for support/guidance as needed.
  • Have a professional approach
  • Can analyze and work with complex issues.
  • Have a strong background in mathematics, digital design, hardware description languages and machine learning algorithms.
  • Mandatory to  write and speak English well (i.e having at least upper secondary school English (=gymnasie-engelska).

Meriting competences (desired, but not required):

  • Open Source Development
  • Programming languages such as P4, Python, VHDL/Verilog
  • Language: Knowledge of Swedish will be a bonus.

After the qualification requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal competency.

6.  What we offer

7. Terms

  • First day of employment: 10th of August 2021
  • Working hours: 100%, i.e., 40 hours per week (not counting bank holidays and vacation).
  • The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in three years ' time.

8. Basic Eligibility

To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:

  • Passed a degree at advanced level,
  • Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits at advanced level, or in any other way acquired within or outside the country acquired essentially equivalent knowledge.
  • Requirements for English equivalent to English B/6, i.e. at least upper secondary school English is mandatory (=gymnasie-engelska)
